Description

Stefano della Bella's etching Two Turks in Turbans reveals the distillation of Oriental costume into simple turbans. The title identifies the two men as Turks, yet without their turbans, they could just as easily become Western Europeans. Created around the same time as Castiglione's etchings, della Bella's work is an example of the iconography of the Turkish type.
