Portrait of Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha (known in Europe as Barbarossa)

Description
Veneziano's Portrait of Barbarossa Hayreddin Pasha explicitly details the intricate costume worn by this powerful Ottoman ruler. Because Veneziano's portrait was commissioned by the Pasha, the nature of this print is extremely different from Castiglione's etchigns. Veneziano paid careful attention to every button, and each fold in the fabric of the turban. This image is one example of depictions of Ottoman Turks that were trying to be accurate, which starkly contrasted the countless depictions of Oriental figures that were not trying to be accurate.
