Title
A presumed self-portrait
Subject
Print
Description
Although it has not be definitely established, this etching might be a self-portrait of Castiglione himself. His eye contact with the viewer is jarring due to his intense, confrontational gaze. His clothing is very similar to the clothing worn by figures in his Oriental Heads. The floppy hat and giant feather harken back to the Oriental Heads; yet, the direct eye contact and individualized face of this sitter are important disparities, and may suggest that this man is none other than Castiglione himself.
