Description
Castiglione is typically credited for the invention of the monotype. This method of printing lacks the reproductive quality that other methods like etching carry. Rather, the artist would roll ink onto a plate, and rub away the ink to create lighter areas until the image was complete. Then, the artist pressed the plate onto paper to print the unique image.
